Very Cherry

A friend of ours showed up at the house the other day. "Hey, do you want some cherries?" Oh hell yes. I've been scoping out some trees as I drive through town, and here comes Chris telling me he has a sour cherry tree in his yard, and do I want some. He brought me over a grocery sack half full the next day.

"Is this enough, or do you want more?" Pshaw, like I ever do something half way. I need MOAR!!!!! So Heather, Mark and I went over to his house in town and picked cherries, and more cherries. Heather and I each had a 5 gallon bucket half filled. Chris was helping Mark fill his 2 gallon kitty little bucket. More cherries than I knew what to do with.

I have a gallon zip lock stuffed as full as I could get it and still close, in the bottom of the freezer. Last night I canned 7 quarts of cherries in heavy syrup. I still have enough cherries for 7 more quarts. They're gonna have to wait till Saturday night though, cause that batch I did last night took me over an hour to pit the other day.

  1. I have lots of cherries to use as well from one tree that is over 100 years old! Do you use the cherries for pie filling? I have so been looking for a cherry pie filling that I could can. Thanks for linking up to the Country Fair Blog Party and congratulations on being a champion this week. Have a fabulous rest of the week!

  2. I did use some of the cherries and made my first cherry pie. I didn't can any pie filling because you need to use clear jel and I only could find sure jel, mot the same stuff. I just used a heavy syrup, and can add corn starch to it later when I make another pie. Thanks for letting me enter the blog hop. My first champion, woot woot
